Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge is back - with a new route!
1820 days ago
This year's Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge has a new home! Good news for cyclists: the grueling N14 stretch is out and a new route is in.
Now in its 18th year, the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge is moving to Century Property's Riversands development.
The venue change means a change to the route. Thanks to Steyn City, the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge will no longer take cyclists along the 14km stretch on the N14 Krugersdorp Highway.
The new route, which will start on a fairly steep incline along Mnandi Road, will now approach the finish line with an even more challenging climb up to the King of the Mountains along Cedar Road and then cruise through Steyn City Boulevard, a brand new dual carriage way, before making its way back up to the finish, along Riversands Boulevard in the Riversands property.
"The new route is certainly no easier as it includes an extra 400m climbing but it is more scenic, more interesting and, we hope, more enjoyable for the cyclists," said Momentum's Carel Bosman, head of Partner Relationships and Sponsorships.
Residents around Joburg will also benefit from new route as there'll be fewer road closures for the event. "We are always acutely aware of the impact that the race has on our residents and strive to do everything possible to minimise the impact on those who need to move around on Cycle Challenge Sunday," said Ravi Naidoo, 94.7 programming manager.
Riversands also gives organisers the chance to create a better all-round experience - the Kiddies Ride and the Mountain Bike Challenge takes place on the weekend of the 8 - 9 November.
The main race is on Sunday 16 November 2014.
Don't forget the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge Expo takes place at the Coca-Cola Dome in Northgate from Thursday 13 November - Saturday, 15 November 2014
