1729 days ago
We're always hitting up the hottest parties and events and we've decided to switch it up a little this week. From movies, to theatre and live music, we thought it would be great to spend the weekend celebrating one of the biggest industries in South Africa… Arts and Culture! Here is our take on the best arts and cultural events to check out this weekend.
Jozi Film Festival
Joburg is buzzing with a vibrant film making community, hence the perfect place to showcase some of the incredible films that are created on African soil. The Jozi Film Fest highlights the very best in film making, enriches local culture and celebrates young film makers who are contributing to the growth of our local film industry. The first film festival of the year was hosted at The Bioscope in Maboneng Precinct and hundreds of movie fundi's went to check out the opening night film "Love the One You Love" which is a story about love and identity in contemporary South Africa, directed by 27 year old Jenna Bass. We've got it on good authority that the atmosphere was certainly something every film enthusiast should experience. The Festival will run until Sunday with different incredible films to choose from at a cost of R40 per film. Click here to book your tickets.
Parlotones Live at the Lyric Theatre
The Parlotones haven't just been dominating the South African music scene over the past few years... They've been taking over the world! Fresh off their summer tour where they performed in Europe, North America and South America, they're back in Joburg for one night only. Don't miss their live show at The Lyric Theatre on the 20th of February at 20h00 where they'll be banging hits such as "Sleepwalker" and "Push Me to the Floor". If you thought that was the good news, then you'll be delighted at the 'better' news: tickets are just R200 and they're available here.
Bassline Comedy Night
Zweli reckons that the funniest thing in the world at the moment is his bank balance or lack thereof… But we're pretty sure there's something funnier than his wallet- Bassline Comedy Night on the 20th of February! Join Emmy nominated Loyiso Gola alongside the likes of Deep Fried Man, Mo Mothibe and Gavin Kelly in Newtown for a night of hilarity and cheeky jokes. This one takes place at Bassline's 'Jazz Room' and tickets will be available at the door for just 80 bucks.
Tutankhaman Art Exhibition
Prepare to be blown away by the beauty of Egyptian history. For the first time in Africa, the captivating Tutankhamun - His Tomb and His Treasures exhibition gives visitors the unique opportunity to experience the treasures of the tomb at their moment of discovery.
