2016 Album Watch: Who to Look Out For In SA...

For AKA, 2016 is already looking like it's going to be another one for the books. He always dreamed that he would be the Supermega and by our standards he already is! Following the massive success of #Composure and Baddest, the multi award winning rapper has dropped a few hints that he could be releasing his third full length studio album. His first two cuts Alter Ego and Levels have already achieved gold status in SA and have received critical acclaim in the music world so what can we expect on his latest album? What we already know is that he has worked with heavyweights in the game such as Khuli Chana, Burna Boy and (his big brother) Da L.E.S. He has also included some fresh young blood in the form of Yanga on his record so we know we're going to get more quality from this superstar. The release date for his new album has yet to be announced but look forward to hearing more quality hip-hop from AKA in 2016.
Most people have forgotten that this young lady started off her career on the biggest reality TV show, Idols. At her first attempt she didn't even make it through to the live shows and one shudders to think what the judges were thinking because her voice is quite something. Following her successful stint on Idols (the second time around), Shekhinah blew the music scene away with her debut collaborative smash hit 'Back To The Beach' where she hooked up with Kyle Deutsch for a tune that is almost certain for a few nods at the South African Music Awards. Her debut cut achieved gold status and she followed it up with 'Let You Know'- a song that is already within the top 5 most Shazamed songs in the country and is steadily climbing up the charts. We're not too sure when we can expect a full length record but we do know that she has been super busy in the studio with Sketchy Bongo (who is also a stand out producer from 2015). Shekhinah… DO THE RIGHT THING, GIRL!
A year ago, Timo ODV, was in his bedroom working on some new beats and he didn't once imagine the thought of having the most played local song on SA radio. His debut single 'Save Me' took the airwaves by storm and was almost certainly the biggest hit of 2015. He couples his slick house beats with his infectious voice… so he basically produces and sings which sets him apart from everyone else. 2015 was definitely the year of the 'new kid on the block' so you can also expect Timo's name to be mentioned quite a few times heading into the SAMA season. When we caught up with him last year he had already worked on a lot of material and it sounded super solid so there will definitely be an album during the course of 2016 and we cannot wait to surrender to the dance floor when we hear more of his music. Timo ODV for the WIN!
