SA takes to Twitter wishing Thabo Mbeki a happy 75th birthday

While the world was celebrating Fathers Day, former president Thabo Mbeki celebrated his 75th birthday on Sunday 18 June.
Birthday wishes have been pouring in on social media celebrating the life of a man who is said to have led the country well.
Mbeki became President of South Africa from 14 June 1999 to 24 September 2008 after Nelson Mandela stepped down as president.
The National Executive Committee of the ANC recalled Mbeki on 20 September 2008, with about nine months left in his second term.
This followed a conclusion by judge C. R. Nicholson of improper interference in the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), that Mbeki may have been involved in a political conspiracy against ruling party leader Jacob Zuma.
While president of the Republic, the economy grew at an average rate of 4.5% per year, creating employment in the middle sectors of the economy.
Mbeki received worldwide criticism for his stance on HIV/AIDS. According to research by Harvard university, his ban of antiretroviral drugs in public hospitals is directly responsible for the avoidable deaths of more than a third of a million people in the country.
The EFF's Commander in Chief Julius Malema who was part of the ANC when Mbeki was recalled later apologised for recalling him saying it was a biggest mistake.
As Africans living today in SA & elsewhere on continent we are blessed to have experienced his visionary leadership. #ThaboMbeki— Christine Qunta (@ChristineQunta) June 18, 2017
