South Africa has been hit by a spate of severe weather conditions.
Gauteng and Kwazulu-Natal have experienced heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms and flooding while on the other hand the Western Cape is experiencing severe drought.

Regional Manager for Gauteng at South African Weather Services, Rudzani Malala, says the country is experiencing a transition from a dry season to a wet season in provinces like Gauteng and KZN.

He says what is happening in the Western Cape could be the effects of climate change.

There's an issue of climate change that we cannot rule out. Climate change talks to severe events where in thunderstorms comes in very severe and drought also comes so severe.

Rudzani Malala, Regional Manager for Gauteng at South African Weather Services

Going forward we should still expect these kind of extreme weather events in terms of drought, flooding and severe thunderstorms.
