Heritage is a full range of our culture, identity, and behavior. It includes preserving, restoring and displaying a
collection of old and valued artifacts.

Director of Libraries and Special Collections at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Joyce Myeza, talks about her partnership in creating a dictionary of architectural knowledge.

They have taken architectural terminology of different languages and have provided a dictionary around all these various terms to preserve this architectural knowledge, she explains.

Myeza says that when she returned from studying enterprise architecture in the US, her co-author approached her. She adds that he had extensive knowledge and wanted to create a heritage for the country.

I looked at the entire project that he had and I felt I’m very much into preservation, I’m very much into access, especially for our future generation.

My co-author is one of those people who acknowledges the architecture of the indigenous population says Myeza.

It wasn’t about – let me just collect and do my research and move on. He will form a partnership and a relationship with the people.
