Consumer journalist Wendy Knowler explains that consumer law does not cover individuals for their unwanted gifts or buyers remorse.

Knowler explains that Consumer Protection Act (CPA) only protects consumers in terms of defective products and does not cover unwanted gifts or goods.

The CPA allows the right to return defective goods within six months of purchase.

Consumers have zero right of return when it comes to a non-defective item, she advises.

While many retailers have different policies, consumers are not entitled to reimbursement for unwanted gifts, by law.

So many people have the wrong idea about their rights when it comes to returning change of heart purchases.

If it's change of heart or buyers remorse, the store doesn't have to take it back at all. If they do, they make the rules.
