Sharpeville dumping site transformed into park

A young performance artist and budding social entrepreneur has been documenting dumping sites in Sharpeville for over three years and has turned one of these into a scenic park.
All without funds from government or the municipality.

Director of Street Arts Government, Modisana Mabale pursued the initiative after engaging community members in an awareness campaign around the dangers of landfill sites.

Mabale spoke to Bongani Bingwa on the Breakfast Show.

What we did was awareness campaigns whereby we did performances and engaged people, went to dumping sites wearing suits and ties, went there and ate our snacks. We started engaging with people in character and that is when we go solutions from the people themselves.
