Excessive screen time has been considered very dangerous for children. Many kids tend to spend a great deal of their time staring at their PCs, tablets or phones.
Efforts are underway to make parents aware of the dangers of the blue light from these screens.
CEO and practicing optometrist at Dynamic Vision Ruahan Naude chats to Ray about the reason kids at a higher risk as opposed to adults when it comes to blue light.
Naude says that the structure of their eye is still at the development phase, which means that the eye allows more blue light through.
Naude adds that kids hold devices a lot closer to their eyes so the intensity of the blue light is more damaging to the eye.

The long-term and short-term effect of blue light includes issues with eyesight at an older age, and interrupted sleep patterns.
He explains there are special glasses available for adults and children that afford protection.
