'There is a much greater demand for data than voice calls'

Vodacom has reported that in the six months to the end of September, its average data prices were down 16.4%.

Informing its shareholders of the fall, Vodacom says the data prices are falling much faster than its prices for voice calls which showed an 8.5% decrease.

Speaking to Xolani Gwala, founder and editor at Techcentral Duncan McLeod says the numbers are accurate but the average user may not have noticed it.

It is a little bit misleading, but the figure is correct. But the retail headline price has not come down but the effective rate of per megabyte charge on Vodacom's charge has fallen by 16.4%.

More consumers than previously are consuming data in-bundle rather than out-bundle. The in-bundle rate is lower than the out-bundle rate.
