Anele :"It’s time to TAKE ACTION to improve school sanitation in South Africa!"

Monday 19 November 2018 is #WorldToiletDay and Anele Mdoda is taking a stand.

Our schools are in the midst of a deadly sanitation crisis. A recent audit indicates around 3800 schools are still using dangerous pit toilets and other inappropriate facilities, while at least 2000 schools have insufficient sanitation.

In response to this emergency, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the Sanitation Appropriate for Education - or SAFE – initiative in August this year and called on the private sector to be an integral part of this effort.

This World Toilet Day, Unilever will be gathering influential people from all sectors of South African society to heed the President’s call to action at the inaugural FLUSH FORUM. As a global leader in sustainability, Unilever is committed to Sustainable Development Goal 6 – clean water and sanitation for all, as well as Goals, 3, 4 and 17 – through its toilet hygiene brand Domestos.

For the past 8 years, Domestos has already been working with partners to improve access to sanitation and hygiene education in South African schools through hygiene education, toilet renovations and most recently, a school janitor programme.

The FLUSH FORUM will be a first of its kind gathering of GOVERNMENT, BUSINESS, NGO’s, MEDIA and other stakeholders for panel discussions, workshops and more.

Please join us as the MC of the FLUSH FORUM and be a partner to us in helping tdeliver safe and hygienic sanitation for all South African schoolchildren.

Event Theme: “The future of School Sanitation in South Africa”

While many events, discussions and gatherings have taken place to highlight the issues faced by learners with regards to sanitation, few have proposed actionable solutions or a positive vision for the future. With this as our theme, we will drive guests and those following the event online, to adopt a future-focused approach that values action.
