An 18-year-old matriculant from Langa High School in the Western Cape has beaten the odds to achieve stellar results, passing with six distinctions last year.
Lukhanyo Zanekile was part of the top performing students in the province and received the Excellent Achievement award at the 2018 NSC Awards Ceremony.
Zanekile moved from Mthatha in Eastern Cape to live with his cousin and eight other family members in Gugulethu where he continued his schooling in Grade 9.
He spoke to Azania Mosaka to share his story.
He says his results are his ticket to help his family out of poverty. He says while he has applied to study medicine at the University of Pretoria he has been accepted to the University of Cape Town for a BSC in Audiology.
I applied for medicine but I am not sure why they responded and said they have accepted me for a BSC in audiology.Lukhanyo Zanekile, Langa High School matriculant
