Discovery Insure has launched an initiative to make sure children are more visible when walking to and from school.
It's See Me campaign, launched in Alexandra, Johannesburg provides school going children with reflective gear.
CEO of Discovery Insure and founder of the Discovery See Me initiative Anton Ossip shares more details on the initiative.
It's a school bag, a hat or a beanie for winter. Kids can wear it and it creates a much higher level of visibility from a further distance.Anton Ossip, CEO - Discovery Insure
In addition to that, it has led us to realise that there is a need for better educational material in schools where kids are taught about the rules of the road and taught about what they should and shouldn't do to be safer when walking to and from school.Anton Ossip, CEO - Discovery Insure
Ossip says the initiative will start from Grade 1.
We are trying to make it fun. We have created characters - Mr Safety and Mrs Cautious where the kids can internalise and understand the characters and what the characters are talking to them about.Anton Ossip, CEO - Discovery Insure
There is a big focus on the drivers as well. We want to create this awareness and make sure that taxis and other transporters very often around the schools are well aware of the rules of the road. It is not just one community, it needs to cut across the drivers, pedestrians, the schools themselves, to make sure everyone is in-sync.Anton Ossip, CEO - Discovery Insure
