Stage 1 load shedding for Thursday, confirms Eish-kom!
Power utility Eskom has confirmed that it will implement stage 1 load shedding from 11 am until 11 pm on Thursday.
According to Eskom, this decision was due to a lack of generating capacity.
Eskom group executive for generation, Andrew Etzinger says there is load shedding because a number of its generating plants have gone out of service leading to a deficit.
The demand for electricity is a little higher than we expected today, about 600 megawatts higher than we anticipated.Andrew Etzinger, Group executive for generation - Eskom
It is higher than our available capacity from a generational point of view and unfortunately, that means we have to implement stage 1 load shedding to bring the two back into one again.Andrew Etzinger, Group executive for generation - Eskom
Three large generators went out of service, including those from Mudupi and Kusile power stations, leading to a gap which Eskom couldn't make up.
