Jeremy Loops releases new acoustic version of his single, Mortal Man (Acoustic)

Jeremy Loops releases the acoustic version of his hit single 'Mortal Man' today, accompanied by an intimate music video featuring an 85-year-old coronavirus survivor.

Produced by Simone Felice, a super-producer best known for his work on The Lumineers' first two albums, Mortal Man Acoustic sees Loops deconstruct his single to its core essence.

'When I first wrote Mortal Man, I was sitting on a river with just my guitar,' says Jeremy Loops.

'Producing the official single was this beautiful meticulous process of adding elements and instrumentation that elevated the song, but I always felt like we needed to release an acoustic version too that spoke to the song's genesis.'

Speaking on his relationship with Simone Felice, Jeremy says 'I've always wanted to work with Simone. He's one of my dream producers. When I was starting out, I used to listen to the records he did with The Lumineers. I would try to figure out how he made the music so beautiful and organic, but still, give it the feeling of a release that can have broad appeal. It's an insane skill I feel really comes across on this acoustic release.'

The music video for Mortal Man Acoustic is an intimate, sun-drenched production, shot in Cape Town's beautiful mountain ranges and smaller, more intimate spaces. Starring alongside Jeremy is 'Granny Laundry', an 85-year-old COVID-19 survivor who lives in Kommetjie, Jeremy's hometown.

'Mortal Man at its essence is a song about acknowledging one's Mortality and, by extension, the endurance of the human spirit. When I heard Granny Laundry's story, I had to meet her.' says Jeremy. 'The elderly wrestle with Mortality more than anyone else, and to have to face coronavirus at that age is to push one to their existential limit. I think she's remarkable.'

That juxtaposition of this young man who, in his own way, believes he'll live forever being hand-in-hand with an elderly woman who knows better captures the essence of Mortal Man.
