South African's are very well aware of the popular slang word 'Yasis'. But did you know that it means 'Hello" (spelt Yassas) in Greek?
When SA filmmaker and TikTok creator Chad Nathan (@ChadJNathan) found out about this, he couldn't help but go on full-on 'Yasis' binge.
According to Google, when spelt γεια σας and γεια σου, they do indeed mean "hello" (the first one when speaking to more than one person, or formally to one person, the second when speaking informally to one person). Γεια σου is even the most common way to greet friends. Literally, they mean "your health" (a common way to greet people.
