No data? No problem! Data-free MoyaApp gives WhatsApp a run for its money
- MoyaApp users can sent text messages and voice notes for free when using a SIM card from a supported mobile network.
- The app launched in 2018 and has over 6.5 million users in South Africa, according to DataFree.
For several years, WhatsApp has dominated the instant messaging marketplace.
2 billion people use the service globally and more than 100 billion messages are sent each day on the app.
But there's a new kid on the block which offers South African's the same instant message service...for free.
MoyaApp is the brainchild of local technology firm Datafree. It was launched in 2018 and offers users data free messaging capabilities.

While there are no data charges for text messages and voice notes when using a SIM card from a supported mobile network, sending attachments such as pictures and videos is not free.
So how does it work?

In addition to the free messaging service, the app also offers a range of data free content and services, says Lentell.
MoyaApp is currently data free on MTN, Vodacom, Cell C and Telkom in South Africa.
